We raise exclusively Buff Orpingtons. We fell in love with them, well because what is there not to love. In the chicken world they are great. Incubated they are very hearty and easy to train. Almost too good at brooding. Both hens and roosters are very docile. In the right environment they almost raise themselves. Just add water, feed, sand and room to scratch and you have great eggs, chicks, harvest and start all over again. Could not ask for a better breed. And they are very cute.

I just ordered baby chicks, in the past I got them from a local store and just kept them in a big box indoors until the weather got warm. I am reading about 90 degrees and lamps, is that totally necessary if they are in a warm house??
Yes! They need that supplemental heat as they don’t have their feathers in yet to help maintain their body heat…
